Studio Policies

  1. Come to class on time each week.  A rushed, hurried or late child is often an unhappy one.  Being in class for the hello song helps make the transition and set the routine of the class.  If you are running late, it is important to come to class with a light hearted sense of fun.  Your teacher’s smile will be sure to ease any anxiety.
  2. Allow your child his/her own response.  Even if your child’s response is inward, it is still the child’s way of learning.  It can be the most difficult for parents to watch their child sit motionless when everyone else is responding exuberantly with body and voice.  Our philosophy asks for acceptance and respect of your child’s response.  We trust the child to interact within the environment when the child is ready.  Please refrain from manipulating your child’s response.  It is appropriate to encourage, but then back away.  Follow your teacher’s lead.  These children don’t miss a thing!  Remember that KM is process oriented, not performance.  The seeds we are planting coupled with the gentle care they get from you and the teacher will help to grow a happy, healthy, musical child.
  3. Children are not allowed to disrupt the class by screaming or by physically aggressing any other children.  If this happens, the parent is asked to please take the child outside or in the waiting room until they are ready to rejoin the class.
  4. For the 45 minutes that class is in session, all mobile phones should be turned off.  Please understand that this is in place for the enjoyment of all of the participants in the class, children and adults included.
  5. Have fun with the materials. The books, CDs and instruments, are fun for your child to use.  Make a special place for them, possibly away from younger siblings.  Listen to the CDs often.  It truly makes a difference in the way your child participates in class.
